Statement of Faith: What We Believe

We seek a unity of understanding in the essentials of our faith, yet we do not suggest that we must agree on all things pertaining to our walk in Christ. On many issues, we have the freedom to disagree. We do ask, however, that all who accept and hold a leadership or teaching position at Parkview respect the following guidelines and resist any temptation to use their position as a forum from which to teach other views. Unity in the body depends upon harmony and mutual trust in leadership.

An incomplete understanding or disagreement of the following essential beliefs does not disqualify one from serving, but may require further personal follow-up. If you disagree with any of the following, please address each topic in the comment section at the bottom.

About God?

The Bible teaches that God is Creator of our world, Sustainer and Lord of our lives. He wants to have a loving relationship - called a covenant - with His people.

About Jesus?

Jesus Christ is the one and only living Son of God and our Savior. Through Him God opened the way of abundant and eternal life through His death, burial, and resurrection to all who call on Christ's name.

About the Bible?

The Bible is the inspired written Word of God. It is the authoritative rule of faith and practice for Christians and the Church.

Jesus instituted a new covenant with God that fulfilled and completed God's covenant with the People of Israel; hence we accept the Old Testament as preparatory to the New and we rejoice that we are related to God through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and not through the Law alone.

About Baptism?

We practice baptism by immersion in water and we welcome anyone who can reasonably confess their need to follow Jesus to be baptized. There is nothing magical in the water, it does not save us. We do believe it is such an important first act of obedience that we require it for leadership. Jesus and the New Testament writers talk of its importance so much that we ask our people to show us and God that they are serious about their commitment.

Leadership Agreement

As a Parkview Groups Leader, we ask that you recognize the influence and visibility you have within your community. Please realize that your words, choices, and relationship with God will be carefully observed by everyone within your sphere of influence. As leaders, we are not perfect, but we commit to making wise choices that glorify God.

  1. I will avoid alcohol abuse or prescription drug abuse, and the use of any illegal drugs or substances (Ephesians 5:18)
  2. I will use my speech to uplift and edify those around me (Matt 15:11, Eph 4:29, Titus 2:7-8)
  3. I will use social media responsibly (Matt 18:6, Heb 13:18)
  4. I will avoid the viewing of any pornography (Matt 5:28)
  5. I will practice a biblical view of sexuality (Romans 13:13; 1 Cor 6:9-10) which teaches that sexuality was a gift from God for the purposes of pleasure, procreation, and the creating of intimacy within a marriage relationship between a man and a woman (Gen 2:24). Any expression of this gift outside of God's created order is not in accordance with God's plan for sexuality.
